  1. So sorry if I offended. I was replying to the massage that someone wrote about sending a bogus lab report making an individual think that they needed to be transfused-I think I unwittingly tagged my reply to the wrong message-I am new to this blog...................

  4. So the debate rages on about the Echo anti-D's. Even though I have had it explained to me a couple of times by the Immucor reps. I guess I still do not understand the necessity of doing two different tests for Rh. Why isn't one good enough? Is ther some sort of problem with Immucor's anti-D reagents that they need a 'back-up' D? I understand that the reagents are two different clones of D-but I still don't understand why you need the two tests for the D. Is it that a monoclonal blend reagent for D does not work on the Echo? Is doing the two Ds on the Echo more accurate than doing one test for D in tube or with gel cards? Or does it just add confusion? Well-I am confused.............can someone help me out. Our lab is in the process of evaluatiing instrumentation for our lab................
  5. I totally agree with this. My hospital discontinued 'weak D' testing long ago after following AABB recommendations. I also agree that I'd much rather result 'Rh negative' and give Rh negative blood rather than call someone Rh positive and then give Rh positive blood and then they become sensitized. To my knowledge, and also according to our reference laboratory, if you are a donor facility the weak D test is done but if you are a facility whose focus is giving blood to patients the weak D test should be eliminated......
  6. My hospital has been using the Ortho gel cards for quite some time now-we routinely re-incubate the gel cards-as long as the foil still covers the microtubes no harm will be done. Two patients' three cell screens will fit on one card so if you only have one screen to do if you did not save the card for an additional patient after the first one is done you would sure be wasting alot of gel cards!!! You can't always hope to batch patients just so you would use one whole gel card up.......................
