I am interested in other Blood Bank's policies on giving CVM Negative products to pregnant women. Do you require that a doctor order the CMV- products or do you provide them automaticall if you are aware that the patient is pregnant?

We currently use a 2F degree rise in temperature as an indicator for reporting a transfusion reaction. We are converting to a new computer which uses degrees C. That would mean a 16.6C increase in temperature! That does not seem possible. Any ideas? Thanks.

What an experience! It sounds like you did the best you could. I totally symapthize as my hospital was the "victim" 3 years of a flood that closed us down for 5 months. You never forget....

Dispensing is the last chance to detect an error. Most places do not even allow a non-Med Tech or even a Med Tech student to dispense blood on their own. Be cautious.. What price do you place on a work break?????

I do the same. I totally agree with you webersl. We were recently inspected and didn't have an issue with this.

It was a mess. 600+ poorly trained people trying to do the job of 22. They had it for 3 very long years, then asked us to take it back. It took a while to rebuild the phlebotomy team but we have most of it back now. You will be sorry if you do it in my opinion.

The other day we had a patient with Anti-e, Anti-C,Anti-Fya, Anti-Jka, Anti-K and a previously detected Anti-S. His hemoglobin was 8.5. When we informed the doctor that we would have to have our Reference Lab do a Nationwide search, he responded by saying we will give him Benedryl and you can give the "least incompatible"! After I caught my breathe, I got our Pathologist to intervene. The blood was here in about 24 hours and they gave it 3 days later. Somedays, I don't think we will ever be understood! What a day! :bonk:

I don't think you can bill for those. It might be called "fraud"!

We have been using Immucor Complement Control Cells for years and they have always worked, although they are weak reacting. Suddenly, the are not working. I put in a call to the company. Lot #34161. Is anyone else have problems with this lot?

Changing to a new band number if the patient is currently receiving products will cause chaos. I agree with Butlermom.
