Not sure my understanding of the AABB 27th edition is correct. 5.7.5.8.1

Anyone will to comment on whether this is correct.:cries:

1. Residual WBC Count: 95% of the units samples contain a residual leukocyte count < 5.0 x 106

2. Absolute RBC Volume: 100% of each collected unit contain ≥ 153 mL red cell volume.

3. Mean Absolute RBC Volume: 95% of all the units sampled shall have > 128 mL red cell volume

Thanks

Stephanie

"...a method known to ensure a final component containing a mean hemoglobin of >51 g (or 153 mL red cell volume).......At least 95% of units sampled shall have >42.5 g of hemoglobin (or 128 mL red cell volume)....."

So of the units sampled at least 95% have at least 42.5 g of hemoglobin (128 mL red cell volume) and the mean of all units will be at least 51 g (153 mL red cell volume). So you can have 5% that have less than 42.5 g of hemoglobin as long as the mean of all is equal to or greater than 51g. It seems you have reversed the mean and absolute in #2 and #3.
