Is this privilege left up to individual facilities to define in policies or is there a regulatory agency that has something specific to say on the subject? tbostock Posted January 29, 2009 Share Posted January 29, 2009 In my state, it is allowed for them to order transfusions, but it is still up to our hospital's Medical Staff Credentialing Office to decide what they can do here. At our place, they are allowed to order "routine transfusions". So they would not be allowed to order uncrossmatched blood or sign for incompatible units...anything out of the ordinary requires a doctor to cosign.
