Rh Typing on the Provue

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have an experience with weak D-positive specimens run on the Provue? From the information that I've been able to gather it appears that the Provue is picking up at least some specimens previously typed as "Rh-positive, weak D" as simply "Rh-positive". Obviously there will be some that fall through the cracks. Thanks!

Yes. The Provue appears to be very sensitive to weak expressions of the D antigen. Patients that had historical types as Rh neg are now being interpreted as D positive on the Provue. These patients did not meet our criteria for performing manual weak D previously to using the Provue, so we can not compare the results in that sense. However, we are no longer testing women of child bearing age due to the sensitivity of the analyzer.
