  1. Its things like that bring me back to this site! Those interesting tidbits that will make life easier that never seem to quite make it to the floor staff. Thanks folks for posting - will be forwarding this posting to my QA Dept for approval!
  2. Brian, From a suppliers perspective.... First and easiest solution (from my point - no idea what it takes to actually initiate this!) is to change your hospital policy to using only leuko reduced products. I have several customers now that have that requirement. As a supplier I am expected to meet a customers needs. I can not think of time I have been unable to meet their need - have had techs forget and send regular red cells, but leuko were always available. If you are dealing with a supplier that isnt 100% leuko reduced I would recommend having alternative sources or procedures in the event of non availability of product. Am now curious if we have ever failed to meet this need - customer survey question time.
  3. Hi Bryan, Dracula's Catering Service here. Our "pamper yourself" promotions have always been linked to drawings for certificates or (for phersis donors) a day at the spa when achieving an annual goal. Logistically- spaces for blood drives tend to run tight so I am not sure there would be room for this kind of a set up at a drive.
  4. Thank you Jane and bbkDiane for your responses. As I am a "non-tech", I am hoping to gather information that will be of assistance when dealing with situations that threaten to wipe out the entire inventory (20 ONEG to an 84 yr old female scenario comes to mind). So any information I can gather on other regions standards of practices in managing Rh Neg units would be appreciated.
  5. Greetings from Alaska, Sheila submitted a question about limits of Rh negative blood going to one patient. My question is from the supplier side - are Blood Banks limiting/monitoring the number of Rh negative units a hospital may order at one time? And if so what criteria is being used, who is directing/implementing the management, and what is the feedback from the hospitals on this matter?
