Lucky me - I get a new ultra-low freezer next quarter! The old one has been hanging on by a thread for several years now. It's time for it to retire. I was hoping that Helmer's new ultra-lows would be out by now, but they're not going to be on the market until some time in 2015. So that takes them out of the running. We are thinking Panasonic/Sanyo because the one in send outs has been very reliable. So I need opinions from those of you who have purchased or evaluated ultra-lows recently. Sanyo? Horizon Scientific? Nor-Lake? Anything else? Thanks!

Our facility is updating our floor model centrifuge which will product volume reduced platelets (Apheresis Platelet which is Plasma Reduced). I'm interested if anyone has validated this process in their facility, and if so...what product parameters did you use to ensure volume reduction yielded viable platelets? We will be performing IQ/OQ of the centrifuge but in planning for the PQ of the product, we are initially considering: - volume of product pre/post - platelet count in pre/post (or lack of platelet/reduction of platelets in the 'removed' portion...) - visual inspection of vol reduced platelet (i.e., the swirling of platelets) If you've recently done it, know of any good references or can share any good (or bad!) experiences, please do! I imagine it would be similar if you've recently validated washing platelets, too... Thanks - and happy 4th!

We are wanting to order a new blood bank heat block. The one we currently have is not holding temperature well. We are having to constantly adjust it back to normal range. We currently have a Thermo Scientific Multi-blok. Any suggestions for a good replacement that is actually able to hold a temperature? Thanks in advance for the feedback

Any experience with the Panasonic Twin Guard ultra-low freezers? I have a new ultra-low freezer budgeted for first quarter of 2014, replacing a crappy Revco. Our sendout area has an older Sanyo that has performed well. My boss is intrigued by the Panasonic Twin Guards. The prices look pretty good, but I haven't seen any comments on them. Anyone? If you've purchased an ultra-low within the past year or so, what brand did you get? Are you happy with it? Thanks!
