  1. we were told by our purchasing department that acetest is on back order again.we are a small hospital lab and maybe having the stanbio bhba uda on our vitros will not be cost effective for us:cries: what is the test kit name of the bhba test from abbott? Thanks!

  2. I ran a CBC on a pediatric sample collected in a Microtainer tube. This patient was in the ED and the plt count was <10,000. I called the ED and asked to speak to whoever had drawn the blood on this pt to see if there was any possibility that this specimen could be clotted.

The doc came on the phone and I explained that I thought it was unusual that the plt count was this low when everything else looked perfectly fine.

I asked if he thought that the spec could maybe be clotted and he said, "I know there aren't any clots in that specimen I removed them myself".

Come to find out, the ED had applicator sticks in the dept and they were checking their specimens for clots prior to submitting them to the lab.

    hahaha :D

  3. Iowa, nice!!

Welcome to the best place for Blood Bankers to mingle!!!

Yep, Iowa...This a totally different world from where I come from...Tornado, snow storms and ice/sleet used to be just concepts for me...Now, they're not...

  4. Hi Everyone :o

I've been an on and off guest here in Blood Bank talk and only recently decided to join in.

I used to work in the blood bank while I was still in the Philippines but now I'm a generalist here in a hospital in Northeast Iowa. I do miss working in the blood bank. It was crazy most of the times but that's what made it fun.

  5. Our lab recently switched to gel technology (Ortho MTS) and we are using the EDTA (purple top) to perform ABO typing, DAT, Antibody Screening and Crossmatching.

Another colleague questioned this saying that the Pink top should be used instead.

I couldn't find any articles that would help clarify this issue...

    Any help?

    Thanks
