My center uses the Mack-Plexxium system. We are large and have several donor sites and various temperature ranges to monitor. It seems to be working very well, but I don't have any hands-on experience with it myself.

You're welcome Rita. I just realized I mistyped something that might mislead you. The highlighted word should have been "no." I do not have any problems with results getting lost in transit.

My blood center has gotten rid of all the charts except for the one or two devices that are not connected to the monitoring system. Those are at a satellite facility that we are either not allowed to hook up or just haven't got to it yet.

We send ours to BSL, which is now CTS, in Tempe, AR. They have a nice CQC (component quality control) lab. They can provide the results in a variety of formats. We use their form and after they document the results and complete their review they scan it into a PDF file and e-mail it directly to me. I used to have problems with the faxed results getting lost, but now more.

My blood center also uses the 2991's. Since there is no standard defining what is or is not acceptable we don't perform any QC on this product. We do, however, on frozen/deglyced RBC and for those who don't know, these machines can be temperamental if not watched closely during runs.
I am also curious about those using protein levels. Did you determine a passing value through a validation of some kind?

My center uses Docushare. It works okay and files are stored as PDF files. Forms can be set to accept typed entries if desired. I've heard that some don't like it and that we are looking for something to replace it, but haven't had any trouble with it myself.

Brian, there is no standard for the recovery of LR random WB derived platelets. I would not recommend doing so either. At least as part of your regular QC. If you wanted to just to check the performance of your filter, you would do it the same way you do for LRBC, but substitute plt count for Hct in the formula.

Please forgive me Trektech2, I have only just discovered this forum.
12711 is the product code given to apheresis platelets of variable content. This is done for units that don't quite meet the minimum requirement of 3.0E+11 platelets. They are sometimes still kept and sold at a discounted rate. While some hospitals won't take them there are others that will take advantage of the discounted rate for something so close.

I don't know how many different types of software have been considered. Those decisions are well beyond my pay grade. lol
If I get the chance I may ask about it.
