slc7067 got a reaction from tbostock in Physician office staff entering external results in Epic
That is EXACTLY what I'm worried about! Your story sounds outrageous, but if I had a dollar for every time office staff or L&D staff have turned "A positive, antibody screen negative" into "A negative" I could take you to lunch! It doesn't appear that I can do anything to stop this, though.

slc7067 reacted to Pat Distler in Thawed Plasma, frozen within 24 hours
Yes, you are correct!
Some of the logic behind this: It's like washed red cells: No matter what Red Cell product you start out with (CPD, CPDA-1, CPD>AS3, etc.), if you wash it in an open system, it converts to the same washed red cells product code with the same 24-hour outdate. ISBT 128 describes "what's in the bag" not what it started out. So, if you extend the dating of plasma to 5 days, you have a thawed plasma regardless of whether it started out as FFP, Plasma frozen within 24 hours of phlebotomy, or the newest type of plasma: Plasma held at room temperature up to 24 hours and frozen within 24 hours of phlebotomy.
It actually makes it a little easier, I think.

slc7067 reacted to Rh-fan in Blood group songs/movies
Has anyone seen this Youtube video?
It is a movie about the Lewis system and it is made by Stephen Schilling.
He has also made simmilar video's about the MNS, Kell, Duffy, Kidd and Lutheran system. You can also find them on Youtube ( search for 'blood group song' or his name).
I specialy like the MNS movie, where M and N are show as a few simple geeks, S, s and U are shown as dangerous criminals. Very funny.
A co-worker of my found them and I have planed to use them in future lessons on this systems.
Have fun watching the video's.

21 CFR 606.121
( The label provided by the collecting facility and the initial processing facility must not be removed, altered, or obscured, except that the label may be altered to indicate the proper name of the product, with any appropriate modifiers and attributes, and other information required to identify accurately the contents of a container after blood components considered finished products have been prepared.
What we do for things like thawed plasma: print off the full face label, cut out the product name/expiration date, and relabel over those sections only so that the information is updated and machine-readable.
