  1. We have had the gel for 18 months now and would also not switch. Just keep in mind that it is not foolproof. Cold agglutinins, warm autos, and rouleaux react. We have also had a hand full of patients who react with the preservative in the gel. We tube test them, concentrating the cells, and the screens and panels are clean: under the scope of course.

All in all, a great great improvement over tube testing.

  2. I was wondering in what circumstances any of you recommend using a blood warmer. Our nursing service is looking for our advice about when to use them and I can only find rapid infusion and extreme cold agg. disease in the technical manual. This would mean we would use them very infrequently. I have an older tech who writes " prewarm" on units for reason such as: rouleaux, cold reacting antibodies and very mild cold agglutinins. Any ideas?

  3. Hello everyone,

I am in Kerrville Texas and have been in labs for 14 years, but have been blood bank supervisor for only about 6 months. I will probably have TONS of questions.

Any of you SBBs, please give me advice, I am set to take my exam later this year.:)
