Here are two links to letters from OSHA regarding footwear. I cannot find anything that requires closed shoes in a lab. If there is a reasonable likelihood of exposure, then the employer must provide shoe covers. It states that shoes that are also worn outside the lab are not considered PPE. Each employer must determine what is appropriate footwear based on hazards.

The Technical Manual suggests a weld check each use and an annual function check. If your manufacturer does not offer some sort of a weld test/kit, what type of function check do you perform?

Does anyone have any experience with anti-A and/or anti-B titers of apheresis platelets? What is your procedure? How did you validate it? What type of QC do you perform? How are your products labeled?
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

For those of you making whole blood derived platelets: I was wondering if other facilities allow a whole blood unit to be respun if the the original platelet rich plasma is unacceptable (bloody). Do you allow more than one respin? Does anyone know of a reference that limits the number of spins?

Can anyone share what they perform for daily QC when counting residual WBCs using the Nageotte chamber?

Pat Distler answered this question in the ISBT area. It only needs an expiration date/time change if you do not intend to relabel it as Thawed Plasma with a 5-day outdate. See: http://www.pathlabtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?2289-ISBT-and-yes-Thawed-Plasma-again/page2&highlight=isbt+thawed+plasma
