We just added a required customer defined screen that asks if we verified all labeling.  Being able to scan it as a double check would be WONDERFUL!

It is built in Issue Component.  I initially built it in Component Processing but wasn't happy with it for some reason that I can't remember at the moment.

MEDITECH is currently adding a Blood Bank Bar Code Label Verification routine. If you would like to be involved in the Design Discussions for this new enhancement please reach out to Damerault@meditec

What kind of label verification are you referring to - donor labeling or bedside pre-transfusion labeling?

Meditech has an entire Donor Module -probably something in there, but I don't use it so can't help you with that.

Meditech has the BCTA module (bar-code enabled Transfusion Administration) for bedside verification of labels and pt ID before transfusion.  Massive program with a lot of dictionary work and IT work - you would have to contact you IT units and Meditech for help with that install and set-up.

Does that help?

I want a process that verifies a modified ISBT label is on the blood product. We do have TAR and that is how we detected that the product was not labeled with correct ISBT label.  I know Cerner has a label verification and the blood product is scanned and verified that the correct label is on the product.

It is simply a statement that says "All labels applied to this Component have been verified" and they have to answer Yes to proceed.

Thank you for the information. I think it is best capture in issue so its the final check that the product is label correctly?

To avoid that FDA event... Did you build the CDS or Meditech?

I built it.  I just saw a demo for version 6.16 that we will be changing to next year and it has the scanning verification that will be very nice!

we were able to "turn on" something in the issue program so that if there was more than one product associated with a unit #, it would ask us to scan the product code....you COULD bypass the scan by picking from the dropdown, but we trained people to scan and if ANY warning came up (because the warnings were not the easiest to decipher) to stop and investigate.
