We recently had a UKAS inspection and they have raised NC on not performing measurements of uncertainty on Kleihauer test . Does anyone had any experience on performing MU.  what data do we need  to collect to perform MU ?

At least as useful as a measure of uncertainty . . . for many the KB is not a screening test but provides the data for amount of RhIg to be administered.

I agree with you all - many things we do for no other reason than to be compliant with some rule somewhere. My advice for KB - talk to your Heme dept and see what they do for diffs.  Or Micro for

there was an article on this in the last issue of the biomedical Scientist.  When I read it, I have to confess,

a - I didn't really understand the point and

b - moved one step nearer to total despair about the useless requirements that might have sense in chemistry but in IH just get in the way of doing useful work

I'm ranting again

I wonder if the CV would provide the same information.  I read the articles and the formulae are not conducive to blood bank operations.

Our klehuier test is screening test,  if more than 2 ml fetal cells seen we  send sample  to reference lab for quantification. I think when there is screening test CV wouldn't not be helpful.

My advice for KB - talk to your Heme dept and see what they do for diffs.  Or Micro for what they do for gram stains.  Just similar subjective tests.  Do the least amount to be compliant and maintain your sanity.
