Has anyone come up with a way to get genotype into Sunquest?  We have just started getting them on our Weak D ob patients and now with the multiple myeloma patients.

We want to get the info in the computer but the antigen/antibody display is difficult to read at best.  I suppose we could do a problem or comment but would like to have its own entry.   Thanks  Karen

We add it either by ordering the patient antigen testing on the patient and resulting it there so that if files under the Antigen/Antibody tab. In our system we would then have to issue a credit for the typings that were not done in our lab i.e. performed by a Reference Lab so that the patient would not get double billed.

OR

The supervisor/tech specialist can add it directly to the Antigen/Antibody tab by using function Blood Administrative Data Entry. This allows you to add/delete/change information in the patient's BAD file at any time without an actual test order. It is restricted to those who have been given that level of access to prevent inadvertent or unauthorized changes.

We were wanting to do something besides add it in ourselves, then comment that its a genotype.  The BAD file can be a bit difficult to read when there are multiple antigens/antibodies.   We are checking with Sunquest.  Thanks  Karen

I am getting VERY confused here.  Are people talking about genotypes (testing genes) or phenotypes (testing antigens)?

PLEASE, let's use the correct terms.  Both are being used here as if they are interchangeable - and they are NOT!

Oh Malcolm.  Sunquest has one big area for all of that info.  Your "codes" you create when designing the system are the only tools you get to distinguish the info.  For example , we designed all "antibody" codes to start with Anti.... so they'd be segregated.  Antigen typing is Pos... or Neg......   Real molecular testing info has to be hand typed into a "comment".   Real fun for new generalist techs to make heads or tails of a juicy sickle patient at 3am.
