I want to know once FFP is thawed , what expiry time is given to the blood product and how it is documented.

It depends on local and national policy. It varies country to country and even within the country sometimes. Where abouts are you based?

aafrn is correct.  In the US, the product label can state "Fresh Frozen Plasma" for 24 hours after thawing.  After 24 hours (at least in the US), the product label must be changed to Plasma if the dating is extended to 5 days after thawing and not make a claim as "Fresh Frozen Plasma.".  See Circular of Information, these 2 producs are different animals.

once thawed we relabel the unit as thawed plasma and it can be stored at 1-6C for up to 5 days.  The "5 day" timing starts once the unit is placed in the thawing bath and the computer system assigns the expiration time (120 hours) of the thawed unit.

Here (USA - FDA) we just start by labeling as "Thawed Plasma" for every unit, so that they are good for 5 days from thawing. We do not get any requests for "Thawed Fresh Frozen".

Only if prepared in a closed system.  Some apheresis FFP are in an open system so 24 hours if thawed.  You would need to verify with the collecting facility.

We receive FP, FFP and AFP from our supplier. Mostly FP and AFP. Once thawed it is relabelled as Thawed Plasma with a 5 day outdate.

What is AFP? thanks in advance. Is it the abbreviation  of apheresis fresh plasma?
