Hi,

I was told when I split a red cell product using an open system, the E code changes. Where do I find a list to know what it changes to?

Thank you,

Kelsey

As you look throught the ICCBBA product database, you can find for every Red Cell product another E code with the same description, i.e. same anticoagulent, same collection method, same attributes as your origianl product but also includes "Open".  It is rather tedious to do the search but you should be able to find the same product "Open" for each original product.

If you split the unit using a sterile connecting device, the E code does not change.  Divisions are created.  The original unit becomes E####VA0 and the other half becomes E####VB0.

ICCBBA released a new tool this summer where you can choose some product specifics and attributes and it provides a list of likely codes. Only saw it yesterday but it seems like it'll be helpful.
