We cannot obtain frozen pooled cryo at our facility so when needed, we thaw and pool individual units.

 

My question is, If I'm pooling five O pos  and five O neg units, can the unit tag state:

A.   "Unit contains ten O cryo units?" Or do I have to say,

B.   "Unit contains five O pos and five O neg cryo units"

 

We are CAP accredited only (not FDA).

For pool we label as O Positive

( AABB std says to label it positive if you have one RH positive in pool)

When we pool units (plasma or cryo) with both Rh pos and Rh neg the new label that prints out from our LIS system says Pooled Rh on it. When we give it out we just explain to the nurse that it means it has both Rh neg and Rh pos. 

We have been receiving pooled frozen cryo from our supplier labeled with only the ABO without the Rh.
