I'm reviewing my procedures and would like to find out how many BBs automatically include a patient autocontrol with an antibody screen if the BB specimen is slightly hemolyzed.  From what I can find in the technical manual, it says it is not recommended as part of routine testing, but doesn't specifically address hemolysis.  If the specimen is moderately hemolyzed, we would request a redraw, but sometimes the hemolysis is barely noticeable in a pipette.

Thanks!

    No!

  • We also only run an autocontrol when we do antibody ID.

  • We test in gel on ProVue and all specimens are collected in EDTA.  Antibody Screen, Major Crossmatch and Antibody Panels are tested with Anti-IgG Gel cards.  So we are not concerned with detecting ant

I only run an auto ct if I am doing an ab id.  Not run routinely.

DAT is run if EDTA specimen shows haemolysis. Panel run by BioVue glass bead IAT and if all cells pos we run DAT to exclude / include auto Ab.

We may run an autocontrol if the specimen is grossly hemolyzed, but not for slight hemolysis.
