Before I lurched into the world of Transfusion Science, I wanted to be a fireman.  Here I am when I was about 7!

Malcolm, were the fire trucks still hand pumped and pulled by horses back then?  Do you remember the name of the Dalmation that rode along?  By the way, what was the purpose of the Dalmation?  :excited:

Thanks for that John, but I am not quite that old!  Mind you, having said that, the fire engine in the photograph was not based at "my" fire station, and was an old AEC Pump Escape built in 1952 - so it was pretty ancient even in those days (see a photograph of a fairly dilapidated example below).

I've never heard about a Dalmation riding along.
