We are looking to purchase a sterile connecting device (aka "tube welder" to connect on satellite bags or syringes for aliquots, etc.).   We've used Terumo products for years and have been very satisfied....but the price on the Genesis TCD is significantly lower than the newest Terumo model.    Does anyone have experience they'd like to share regarding either product?

Two organizations I've worked with had both the Terumo SCD and the Haemonetics/Genesis TCD. To be honest with you, I would never use the Genesis TCD if I had the option of using Terumo's product - it's clearly superior. The TCD seems to have a higher likelihood of failed seals due to user error (the tech has the fold the two lines over and line them up inside of the device, not too close, not too far) and wastes more of tubing. The only advantage to TCD (and the reason that my last institution had one) was the portability - we could take it on apheresis mobile blood drives.

I have used both the Terumo and Genesis. The Terumo is a little easier to use, but with just a little practice, the Genesis performs admirably. One thing to consider is the availability of consumables. Recently we were running very low on neonatal syringes and sterile connection wafers that we use on our Genesis sterile connector. We had to get a "special" emergency release of these consumables from Genesis in order for us to receive these products. As I understand it, normally Genesis does not ship anything based on a PO but require a check in their hand before shipping. If we were a brand new client, I maybe could see the sense of this policy, but we have been spending money with this company for years. If I was buying again, I would seriously compare Terumo's policy on providing consumable items with Genesis to see if they are less onerous.

I just have a question about the aluminum sealing clip, who manufacture it and who sells it? Please share info.
