Does any one uses Softbank? I have some questions regarding ABO retye, DAT, C3, and anti-D due rhogam, result entry. Please let me know

We use SoftBank. Let me know your specific questions and I will try to help. I have been in 2 different Blood Banks that have used Soft. I have been using the system since 1998.

We also use SoftBank. Feel free to ask any questions.

I have 7 years experience with sunquest/ Misys and was easier then soft (I think). I least it is easier in a way when entering information in patient’s administration file. Here are my questions:

v When a patient comes to the hospital for transfusion reason, for the first time we do retype. On the soft, it is setup to do both forward and reverse. Why do we need to do the reverse? This test serves to check if the first sample is indeed from the patient it says. So I don’t know the reasoning! It is time consuming and wasting reagents

v In soft, I saw 7 different kind of DATs listed, DAT, DAT Gel Newborn, cord blood Gel, Cord blood evaluation, direct coombs, DIRECT COOMBS(cap letter), DATG. My question is what is all that. That is just confusing. Is this an IT/LIS/IS issue configuration of tests when installing the Softbank was not done properly?

v How do you charge the patient when patient needs special units such as Hemoglobin S negative, CMV, antigen negative units?

v Where do you check TAT of type and screen? (print)

v Soft is not setup to stop exception report (flag) when resulting a baby reverse ABO/RH. This also sounds like an IT issue. Please let me know how to resolve those issues.

AABB standards require both forward and reverse on both types done for electronic crossmatch. If you are not doing E-XM that would not apply but may explain why it is set up that way.

I will give it a try, but seems like a Soft application specialist or opening a TMS with Soft may be helpful.

1. Create a group test called Retype in Setup, name this a front type or retype, use test code 'A', 'B' and if needed 'D' and interpretation as ABO, if applicable RH, enter truth table for blood types. Note: If you are performing computer crossmatches then a front and back type is required for 2nd sample.

2. You have the option of creating only 1 DAT based on the technique in use at your facility. If created and you are not using any of the DAT tests, you can uncheck the 'Active' box in set up.

3. Charging for hemoglobin -S and unit antigen typing for a patient may be performed by the use of actions. This is available under setup function as Actions.

4. Also the cord ABORh test, is not created right, this can be done as above in number 1.

I believe there is a parameter setting where you enter all your "ABO" tests so that Soft knows what test codes qualify as an ABO type for confirmation purposes. I agree that your implementation specialist should be a valuable resource for these questions.

What are your questions? I am the LIS administrator for the Soft Bank system at Mount Sinai Hospital in NY.

I can add, for TAT for T/S in under management-> tests not done in time (that is after you have defined your benchmark).
