I am interested in other Blood Bank's policies on giving CVM Negative products to pregnant women. Do you require that a doctor order the CMV- products or do you provide them automaticall if you are aware that the patient is pregnant?

We only supply CMV negative upon physician's orders for any patient.

We give CMV "reduced risk" - aka leukoreduced - to all patients. No special consideration is given to pregnant women. If CMV neg is ordered, there is a discussion with the pathologist and the ordering physician to decide if CMV neg is really needed before we order it special from the supplier.

All our products are leukoreduced - considered by many to be CMV=. We provide CMV= by physician's order only.

Everyone gets leuko-reduced (CMV reduced-risk). If CMV neg is required the physician must order it and if it is for other than a progenitor cell transplant patient who is CMV neg and receiving a CMV neg product it would need to be approved by a pathologist.
