Microfilarial worm?????????????

a) I am not a haematologist.

I am not a parasitologist.

It looks far too small for a filarial worm and there are no inclusion bodies. Is this the only one in the film, if so query whether this is an artefact of some form

TOTALLY agree Mabel!

I showed this to our micro supervisor who, despite its small size, is still not convinced it's an artifact. She said it would be nice to have a smear to look at and hopefully find more of the critters, and find ones showing a little more detail such as sheathes and nuclei. Knowing a little about the patient and his/her travels would be a boon as well. If it does get referred to Hemtalk I'd be very interested to see what it turns out to be.

BUT please come back and tell it what is was. I can't remember my parasit...... but loved that class.

no sheath and tiny for a microfilariae. maybe, Mansonella? i'm a hundred miles out on a limb 'cause i really cannot see very well.

One of my pathologists is leaning toward some kind of Trypanosome.
