Albumin is dispensed from the blood bank. Recently nursing has been questioning the need for patient consent to administer albumin. Is there a standard for such consent?

Albumin is a derivative not a blood product. If they get a consent for all meds then I guess you would need one otherwise, you don't need a consent for a blood product.

Albumin falls under the standard treatment consent, not a blood consent here.

No separate consent required, this is signed for upon admission with all the other meds, in one nice document that no one ever reads.

Blood consent is required for any human blood derivative at our institution. This would include albumin, IVIG, PPF, etc. These products are administered by pharmacy. We do not require blood consent for recombinate products such as FVIIa or recomb. FVIII or IX.
