Does anyone perform lamellar body counts on their Beckman Coulter LH780? If so, how did you validate the test?

Thanks,

Doris

We perform Lamellar Body Counts on our LH780. We validated the test by buying samples from ARUP who also does LBCs on the LH780. We then ran each of those samples twice to verify we were getting consistent results. We figured out the SD and CV for our statistical analysis.

We did a total of 20 samples.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the article and the suggestion about buying samples. I will look into this. ;)

I do LBC on a Sapphire and am interested in hearing from others about your cut-offs. We have run over 60 samples and compared them to L/S ratio results and clinical outcomes to determine the cutoffs.

We are running LBCs on the Sapphires and recently have had some discolored samples. What criteria is everyone using for interferring substances, such as blood, meconium, and/or mucus? CLSI recommends these samples not be tested.

I wouldn't run them.
