I don't know if this has been discussed before but I'm interested in hearing everyone's comments. Many transfusion services verify the accuracy of their pipettes twice a year but the technical manual says to do it quarterly. What are the majority of you doing?

We verify ours quarterly. We figure that way we are covered no matter who wanders in to inspect!

We check dispensing volumes with a weigh balance weekly and calibrate whether it needs it or not every 6 months.

Annually, by a commercial company. We are not an AABB lab anymore.

According to the manufacturer's instructions - twice per year. Cheaper to get one balance done twice a year than all the pipettes 4 times a year...
