Has anyone noticed any significant differences between the CAP checklist and the AABB one. Or something in the AABB not in CAP, or vice versa....

One big difference in the latest (July 2011) CAP checklist is that they no longer require annual procedure review. They've gone to a 2 year review cycle.

On significant difference I found when I did our CAP self-audit was this:

27th Edition AABB Std 5.7.5.20 and 5.7.5.21 require that 90% of the apheresis platelets tested have >/= 3.0 x 10<11> platelets at the end of allowable storage or at the time of issue.

CAP Std TRM.44900 (Revised) requires at least 95%.

There are probably several differences.

For instance; Issuing blood products..

CAP "the procedure for signing blood.. out.. provides adequate protection for the potential recipient." TRM.40900

AABB "there shall be a check of..(lists several separate items)" 5.18.2

limiting ABO incompatible plasma including platelets: CAP: for infants only TRM.40740

AABB "shall have a policy concerning transfusion of components containing significant amounts of incompatible ABO antibodies." --implied for all patients.

and so on...
