The Ortho MTS gel instructions say that the pink haze can be caused by rouleaux caused by abnormally high protien values in the patient's plasma.... What is your procedure for these circumstances?

If it interfers with reading the results, then we go to tube. If the tube screen is positive, we would do a tube panel to ID it.

Depending on how "hazy" the tube is I would either ignore it or see if I can duplicate rouleaux in a tube.

I would agree with David.

Two or three red cells getting amorous doth not make a transfusion reaction.

There is also the thought that washing the red cells with warm saline will keep the rouleaux away (is that like keeping the rabbits out of your garden?). I've tried it and it does work.
