You could try to speak With Pat Arndt in the American Red Cross Reference lab located in Pomona and see if they can set up an experience for you. If that does not work Dr. David Oh at the San Diego Blood Bank may be of assistance. Finally you could try Life Stream in San Bernardino. Dr. Rick Axlerod is the CEO, but you might try their asking for someone in the Reference lab to see if something can be arranged.

Gulf Coast Bld Center in Houston, TX has a great SBB review. It's intensive and packed into a single weekend, but very affordable and definately prepares you for the exam. I applied for the SBB exam right away after leaving the review and passed no problem! It's worth the trip!

Hi Angela,

Were you a student at Gulf Coast or they take anyone for the review class.

I know they offer a year or so of SBB schooling but I do not know if they

offer review classes to outsiders. How long was the review and do you have

to go to Texas for the whole time of the review? Thanks for your help.

Go to the website giveblood.org. Under Services/Education, find SBB Last Chance Review and download the brochure. This year's review has already come and gone, but the brochure gives cost and topics.

My hospital pays by education and does not require ASCP certification. Now it seems we have quite a few techs with degrees (MLT or MT) and they are not taking the ASCP registry. We do not require a state license. Just wondering how other places work?

Same as BBK710 with the exception of time frame: new-hires are given 2 years to pass the exam before termination.

Good Lord, I'm glad they didn't do that to me. It took me about 8 years to get my HNC, before I went on to get my Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences and, eventually, my Chartered Scientist!

I could be a refuse collector now at that rate!

Hi,

We used to have state licensure in California but now we only need ASCP certification to work as scientist. So in your state (NJ) you do not need

any certification even ASCP to work as CLS?

Contact your local blood supplier - they may be willing to help with this. Becky Thomas
