My facility is evaluating instrumentation for the blood bank. Can different instruments be set up to either use or not use the barcode extention on the order numbers?

We are looking at the ProVue, Tango and Echo. Thanks!

Our Lab computer system is Horizon Lab by McKesson. It generate a barcoded label for the patient's sample that contains info about the patient and the tests that were ordered to be done on that sample.

Horizon Lab in interfaced with our HCLL Blood Bank computer system by Mediware. HCLL also generates a barcoded Specimen Label to put on the sample (which contains info about the patient & specimen, but no information about what tests were originally ordered.)

We have an Echo instrument. It can read/use either of our bar coded labels. However, we do not yet have the Echo interface to either computer system. So if you are interested in interfacing your Blood Bank testing instrument with your computer system, you should probably ask state what computer system you are using (or plan to use), and hopefully someone will respond and be able to give you more specific info. (P.S. The Echo can also read the barcoded labels from our blood donor units.)
