If I'm only occasionally doing venous blood-draws

for a few drops of blood for research purposes only, can I dispose of

these very small amounts of blood by simply:

(1) Diluting it with 10% bleach solution, and dispose in the toilet.

(2) Hire a commercial bio hazard service to pick up

the blood??

Somewhere there's a protocol on the 10% bleach solution,

for blood disposal, but I can't find the written protocol.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!.

Pour 10% bleach (0.5% Sodium Hypo chlorate) over the drops, wait for 10 minutes, wipe with the disposable cloth or towels papers and discard them in the biological waste (Yellow bags usually) for incineration. We cannot discard such body fluids in toilet. If u r in a small facility (other than Health Care) and you do not have regularly biological waste; u should incinerate or autoclave this cloth/towel paper then u can discard them with regular waste. This last sentence is my personal opinion.
