We are currently looking at our staffing ratios and I am wondering if any of you in collection centers would share with me what staff to donors collected ratio you are currently using ... AND ... if those staff are performing anything other than Screening and WB Collections.

I've seen the mobile staff to donor ratio previously stated as 1.5 donors per staff per hour of collection...is this a valid number still, or are you using some other parameter?

Thanks

We required our donor staff to be able to handle at least 2 donors (bleeds) at one time. I have seen red cross phlebs with 4 couches in the past, but in the past few years they seem to only have 2 (rarely 3). Double red donors get 1:1 treatment (or maybe 2 techs for 3 doube donors at once). If you were doing the phlebotomies, you did not do histories/questions - we did he physicals in the donor chairs. This was a hospital-based donor service - approx 5000u/year. And platelets by pheresis.

I have heard about using what is called a DASH rate but have not fully seen the formula for this ratio. Does anyone know the exact formula?
