We use a 180 micron filter blood set for red blood cell administration. Can platelets, plasma, and cryo be transfused using this size filter?

We use a Y type filter for RBC's as Saline is necessary for the RBC's to flow easier.

The Y filter is not necessary for PLT's FFP, or Cryo and since these products can be lower volume, we use a single line filter with a shorter line.

For adult patients, correct? Does anyones protocol differ for neonates and peds patients? ;)

I haven't looked at them in a long time, but preiously the only difference between a red cell (standard set ~ 170 u) and a component set was the length of the tubing.

All components must be administered thru filter (standard 170- to 260-micron) designed to remove blood clots and particles potentially harmful to the patients.
