Hello everyone. Just wanted to make sure when calculating the percentage of out dated blood and blood products as QC indicator, Are you calculating the percentage from the total collection or total product preparation? Which one is the correct one? Thank you all.

I'm not sure if there's really a standard way to do the calculations. I would think that the most useful information would be to start with the "total # of products prepared", the calculate and report each of the various components individually. (ie: "For the month of XXX we outdated 6 % of our Packed Red Cell units, 42 % of our Plateletphereses units, 0% of our Fresh Frozen Plasma units", etc.) What do you think?
