I am trying to find out at what age children can start receiving a full donation of packed cells (350mg). I can't find any info in the AABB manual. My boss wants a specific age/weight and I am coming up short. I know about neonates and the quad packs. Does anyone out there know? If so, where can I find this info?

thanks a million,

Sandra

I don't know that age has anything to do with it, at least it didn't at the children's hospital I was working at. The dosage recommendation is 10-15 ml/kg, assuming a 350 ml RBC and 15 ml/kg, the patient would need to weigh at least 23 kg. The dosage recommendation is from the AABB Pediatric Transfusion: A Physician Handbook.
