New York State Dept of Health, Blood & Tissue Resources Program has quite a bit of information on this at:

http://www.wadsworth.org/labcert/blood_tissue/blood_services_guideline.htm. Most is based on AABB guidelines. Hope this helps.

ARC has published a good set of guidelines. Go to cbbsweb.org and scroll down to the bottom of the page. On the lower right hand corner you can click on the link and download the guideline.

I know that you are after US Guidelines, but if you would put up with UK Guidelines, you can find these by putting "British Council for Standards in Haematology" into your search engine, and go from there.

Hi Cornelia, if you look in the document library on this site (under References), these BCSH guidelines can be found in the UK section.

Actually, that could be the "British COMMITTEE for Standards in Haematology", but if you put in "BCSH" you should find it anyway.

Hi Cornelia,

Australia and New Zealand have very useful guidelines that are frre here: http://www.anzsbt.org.au/publications/index.cfm#societyg

They are PDFs and seperated into a few areas and much simpler and shorter than the UK guidelines. They are very practical. Note that they are guidelines and not standards ore requirements but it is very usual for Australian and NZ labs to follow these diligently (or you will suffer when audited or inspected for accreditation).

You can also check out the Circular of Information:

http://www.indianablood.org/educationtraining/Pages/ProductDocumentation.aspx

click on the "Circular of Information" link. It is very basic, but it is considered to be an extension of our product labeling.

You can also purchase the AABB Standards for Blood Banks and Transfusion Services, now in edition 26.

The government guidelines and laws are available in the Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 Parts 600 to 799, published annually. The FDA also has information on their website www.fda.gov under vaccines, blood, and biologics. Select Blood & Blood Products, then look for Blood Guidance and Memoranda to Blood Establishments.

There is also a really good publication from Canada at www.traqprogram.ca
