Forget what other facilities do. Check with the manufacturer and find out if the pump has been approved for use with platelets. I have always been skeptical of pumps and platelets. In my way of thinking platelets are fragile enough under normal storage, thoughts of running them through a pump always bothered me. I always checked to see if the pumps were approved for platelets before agreeing to allow "my" platelets to be run through one.

I agree, but I also don't think manufacturers have studied anything but the count recovered coming out the pump. I wonder if any have actually looked at if the platelets have been activated or not and how the patient will respond.
