Is anyone using the Hettich EBA21 centrifuge with a swing out rotor to spin vacutainer Blood Bank specimens? We would like to purchase a centrifuge with a small footprint. Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

We are using one with the fixed (serology type) rotor to spin EDTA specimens for testing on Galileo Echo. Our validation studies for solid phase/Echo were spun that way. It is working fine.

I resorted to using it that way cause I couldn't get my boss to buy me anything else suitable to replace the fixed speed (high speed) centrifuge we had been using for specimen processing.

I like the StatSpin Express 3; spins specimens at a high RPM in 3 minutes.

We use the QuikSpins from Helmer for spinning BB specimens. Platelet-poor plasma in 2 minutes. (plastic tubes only)

They are small and quiet, and pretty affordable. We bought two approximately a year ago. Then we bought 3 more for Coag and the main lab because they work so well.

They replaced these noisy old things from the 70's that took 7-10 minutes for BB specimens. What a morale booster for us all to have quiet and quick centrifuges after putting up with the noise and the delay in turn-around-time for all those years.
