The Blood Bank saline cubes say to run a negative Coombs control daily. We do that daily with the saline that runs through the cell washer, but want to know if anyone runs a negative Coombs control on the cube that fills the saline squirt bottles.

We just run one negative Coombs control using the saline bottle. The assumption is if the saline in the bottle (which is more likely to get contaminated) is good, then the saline in the cube is good.

We use the same cube for both the cell washer and the squirt bottle, and test for a neg DAT and the absence of hemolysis.
