Rh23 is a low frequent antigen expressed in some weak D type blood. In an assay I read it expressed in CCDEE phenotype, but this is not a kind of weak D. What is the name anti-Dw( anti-Rh23) comes from?

Dw (Rh23) is NOT associated with weak D type. The w stands for Weil (name of the first proband whose rbcs possessed the low incidence antigen. RBCs that are Dw positive have a partial D antigen of DVa; in Caucasians it is DVaCe and in Blacks it is DVace.

I hope that answers your question.

Additionally the DVa phenotype can be confirmed serologically using the advanced partial D kit from Alba Bioscience
