Good Morning,

We are faced with the delima of meeting the AABB Standard with regards to MD participation in blood utilization for our contracted crossmatch acounts. We serve close to 100 accounts and "participation" for each will be a huge undertaking.

Does anyone have any insight on how to approach this standard? We have asked for clarification from AABB, but any suggestions you can provide would be much appreciated.

Are you a Blood Supplier (and service 100 hospitals or similar accounts?) (Also, the standard doesn't specifically state "participation of 100% of the physicians, does it?)

Could you brief at Medical Staff meetings?

Your service agreement with the contract crossmatch accounts could specify that monitoring blood utilization (8.2) is the responsiblity of the requesting/transfusing unit. See 4.2.2.
