I have heard that my facility will begin performing interventional cardiology procedures such as placing stents and balloons. Does anyone have these procedures at their facility and what blood bank needs are involved?

We are a large facility that does a lot of cardiac surgery. I do not believe these patient require much in the way of blood needs. These procedures aren't on our list of those that we would "automatically" set up blood for.

Then of course if they rupture, that's a whole different story. :(

We usually don't even know these patients are in-house until something goes wrong and they are on their way to the OR. This happens maybe once or twice per year but it sure is exciting when it does.
