Hi,

I am currently working at a facility which stuffs its BB refrigerator shelves to the gills with pRBCs. They are nut to butt, like sardines in a can. My instinct says this is not appropriate storage, and maybe something about not enough air circulation? However I'm drawing a blank on which agency might have a guideline or standard about this, if there are any. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't remember any organization or agency that addressed this issue.  I assume you have recording thermometer(s) in the refrigerators as well as other thermometers.  If you are concerned you could get multiple stand alone recording thermometers and run periodic checks of different points through out the loaded refrigerators.  Personally I never considered it an issue.

Same, I worked at one facility that would stuff the shelves, and my current department doesn't have a need to, so we don't. I don't recall any guidelines/standards on this, but if they are overstocked it could be a waste of money.....

there are other "storage solutions" available that would force them to put less on the shelves......
