How do you address the issue of surgery cutting off armbands when they need arterial access at the wrists?   Looking for feedback if anyone has found a solution to this problem.  Thanks!

I would love to say that there is a fix for this, but there is not. So, in general, if a patient's armbanded has to be cut off, the blood bank tech will go up and cut it off. We, then, would use a band extender to relocate the band.

We allow other areas to change BB armbands.  We have a form for that that is returned to the BB so we can make the proper adjustments to the specimen ID, tags, computer, etc.
