We had some FFP that was left at the plasma thawer for three hours at room temperature during massive trauma situation. We searched literature to try to determine if this FFP product could be relabeled as Thawed Plasma. We found an article from Transfusion 2002;42:1581-1584, that investigated the potential use of thawed SDP that was stored at room temperature for up to 5 days. Does anyone have a reference for how long a thawed FFP can be out at room temperature after thawing and still utilized as Thawed Plasma? For that matter how long can the thawed product be at room temperature and still be labeled as Thawed FFP?

We find that tube method using PEG enhancement works well in identifying weak Kidd antibodies, as well as, newly forming Rh antibodies. That is our back-up to Gel.

I am looking for information on performing titers on platelet pheresis products upon recreipt or prior to issue. If you are performing such a process, would you share that process/procedure, and specifically: 1) What method are you using? 2) What is your threshold or significant titer? 3) Did you validate that threshold for the method you are using? 4) What was your sampling size for that validation? 5) Are you only performing this process on Group O products?

My computer vendor is using C/T to calculate a CTU ratio. Problem is all data containing a zero comes out to 0 for the ratio. I am trying to convince them perfection is 1:1 or 1, and 0 should not be a result. Also, that using their formula results in a physician that never uses the blood they order having the lowest result. Also, if a physician orders 4 units and uses one, their formula results in a CT = 4.0. They do not understand. Anyone have a mathematical formula that can be used to calculate a CTU ratio? Thanks.

Could someone please e-mail me a vendor name making Thawed Plasma labels? Our regular supplier wants us to make a custom label. It seems this should not be a custom order. Lots of us are using Thawed Plasma these days! Thanks.

We are a very busy, Level 1 trauma service. We have been using 24 hour plasma with a 5 day expiration, for a few years. There have been no reports of ill effects. We do try to mix older dated with fresher dated for massive transfusions. We keep about 20 units pre-thawed.

I agree it would be validation and QC intensive but we are a very large, Level 1 trauma center. I need to explore the possibility of doing this. It may not be worth it. That is why I am looking for someone who has experience with this. The benefit would be the ability to deliver a cryo pool in 30 minutes. We are always looking for ways to cut delivery time to very critically injured traumas. I agree it does not take long to thaw and pool but we are a large center and we often have a lot of things going on at the same time. The prime time for critical traumas is weekend nights, the time when we have the least staff available. I have on-call staff, but by the time they arrive we are at least an hour into the trauma. I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

I am looking for information on thawing and pooling Cryoprecipitated AHF, then re-freezing it. We are not a donor center so pooling prior to processing the component (freezing for the first time) is not an option. I am interested in a procedure and a validation protocol for doing this because I have never been involved in this type of process.

We have also used this product for a period of approximately one year. We like the fact that it can be used either IV or IM. The Nurses like this feature also. I do not have to worry about outdating WinRho, a problem in the past.
