Hi and Low alarm checks on new refrigerators/freezers
Hi Terri: Would you mind sharing your policy for wireless monitoring. I am piloting 2 sensors from sensoscientific and wanted to get some input. Thank you in advance. -Miguel

Anti M
We currently do not screen units. AHG XM compatible is best practice (IMO). If strong anti-M is seen, we would recommend the use of a blood warmer at that point.

Sensoscientific wireless temperature monitoring
Hi: I am currently looking into this system for BB equipment monitoring. Just wanted to know if anyone has any information they would like to share in regards to: reliability, total cost of ownership, feasibility? The company can give us sensor for free to trial. Your comments are greatly appreciated thank you. Miguel

Exact or default volume for red cells?
Hello: We have recently started the same protocol at our facility. Nurses seem to think that the volume measured by the pump is not accurate enough and we discovered this was the case because they are not adequately resetting the volume after each patient, hence the discrepancy. We have agreed to record actual volumes on the transfusion slip and unit (this is obtained from packing slip from shipment) and we update this in computer. This is more work for us but when it comes to nursing, hospitals seem to like to entertain their 'bright' ideas.

Biorad Reagents and Clay Adams Serofuge
We use both and correlations are good and spin time of 15 sec is acceptable.

Eluates in GEL
Brenda: I had the same problem ~2weeks ago. I'm currently using Gamma Elu-Kit (Lot:359044). Patient with a history of autoanti-E showed warm on gel panel and AC was positive. We then performed gel panel from eluate and reaction was strong 4+ on all cells(no mixed field). Repeated tube w/PEG and sure enough, anti-E came through. As a result of this we had to discontinue routine use of gel DAT's, Elutions. Hope this provides some consolation that you are not the only one..

OR freezer monitoring
I completely agree that It should be maintained daily by OR staff. I would like to try to convince them but somehow they seem to think that our responsibility is to monitor everyones freezers and the not-so-friendly OR Nurse Manager seems to agree with this. Any suggestions/ideas to help with this battle? Thank you for your feedback

OR freezer monitoring
Hello: I am a BB supervisor for a community hospital with a fairly quiet OR and I wanted to know what everyone thinks about monitoring freezers, fridges for the OR. How should this be delegated. Should we keep and monitor their equipment? What policy's are in place at your facilities? Thank you.
