  1. Did you antigen type the patient 5 years ago for C and K? We would give e, C and K negative units if they are antigen negative regardless antibody screen results now.

  5. The only solution we have found that seems to save us money, is using the CPDA 1 bags for therapeutic phlebotomy. If the foil package is opened to remove a bag, as long as you fold the open ends closed, the expiration is 60 days. 12 bags come in a foil packaged, but we also have to order by the case.
  6. We were recently inspected by JCAHO. In the policy manual we have stated must workup a transfusion reaction if patients temp increases 2 degrees from 98.6F or 1 degree from 37C. What if patients pre transfusion temp is elevated before transfusion begins? Is a transfusion reaction workup recommended (2 degree increase) from the "starting" temp or is it always 98.6F? I emailed AABB to clarify, never received a response. I would like to know what others are doing. Thanks for any help!!!
