Expiration Date For Neonatal Aliquot
Hi, everyone. Need information. When pulling RBC's from the closed system PediPak into a syringe, what is the expiration date and storage requirements of the aliquot. Also, where do I find the AABB Standard for this? There is a discussion a my job and the information is needed to settle a disagreement.

SBB Practice Exams
Hi,everyone! I am taking the SBB exam later this year and I would like to have a few practice exams to help in locating weak areas. Now that I am getting close to exam, I want to be able to focus my studies and reviews. I have one from the Last Chance Review held this year, but if anyone has access to a few others it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all the help in advance. mia9941

Direct Coombs in GEL
We use ORTHO gel on the Provue for all DAT's and often will obtain a reaction the instrument requires to be read manually. This is frequently found on cord's. BB policy is that if the gel is positive then there is no because it is a less sensitive test. However, there have been cases where the DAT is weakly positive with gel, but negative on tube. Our Supervisor says we are not to do further testing on weakly positive gel DAT's because if the gel says it's positive, then it's positive. I don't necessarily agree that this policy is the best practice. A positive DAT throws our nurses into a possibly unnecessary tizzy. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Emergency Release Form
Two questions Re:Emergency Release 1. How are transfusions vitals performed and recoreded during transfusion with uxm'd blood? Is this not a TJC reg? 2. At what point, do you convert to type specific blood in a massive bleed? OK. Three questions.

TJC Reg Regarding Ortho Manual Gel Daily QC
Is it allowed to define a "batch" as a 24 hour time frame? Sorry for the duplication. it's an ID10T error.

TJC Reg Regarding Ortho Manual Gel Daily QC
Please define *each batch*. My definition is every time manual card testing is performed just like with some serologcal testing, i.e., Mono or RA. Or is it allowed to define a "batch" as an 8 hour or 24 hour time?

Releasing RBC units post surgery
David, I have always been confused about how our facility derived the policy concerning how long a xm specimen is good. Can you direct me to information related to the development of this policy? Thanks.

TJC Reg Regarding Ortho Manual Gel Daily QC
Thanks, Bill. No. I am stating that QC is not performed on manual gel ever unless the Provue is down, but, manual gel testing is done most days. Antibody ID testing is done in manual gel and we have an antibody of some kind every day. Also, we have some Tech's who do not use the Provue at all and only do manual gel when they work the bench, an issue I believe needs to be corrected. At the end of the day, however, it seems we need to make the necessary changes to be compliant. There is a patient on the other side that deserves the best care we can provide.

TJC Reg Regarding Ortho Manual Gel Daily QC
Need clarification. Does daily QC on the Provue satisfy the reg for performing daily QC on manual gel as long as the autopipettes, centrifuge, and temperatures are checked? At the present, manual gel QC is done only if the Provue is down.

Urinalysis QC
I have worked in several labs all of which are or were accredited by different agencies- one was CAP, one was COLA, one was CLIA, ANd one JACHO. There seems to be a variety of interpretations on daily Urinalysis QC. At my present job, we are accredited with JCAHO and we perform QC on the Clinitek Advantus three times every day and it has to be performed at exact times (8 AM, 4PM and Midnight +/- 15 minutes. This seems to be overkill to me, but I am not certain what the regs are (not a supervisor). Can anyone shed some light on this matter. Thanks. mia
