Hi, We used to have state licensure in California but now we only need ASCP certification to work as scientist. So in your state (NJ) you do not need any certification even ASCP to work as CLS?

Hi Angela, Were you a student at Gulf Coast or they take anyone for the review class. I know they offer a year or so of SBB schooling but I do not know if they offer review classes to outsiders. How long was the review and do you have to go to Texas for the whole time of the review? Thanks for your help.

H Kip, Thank you for your info. Is this anyway so you give me the direct URL for GW where I can register for the review course. Also, since you are a SBB and have a lot of contacts, do you have friends here in Southern or Northern California in blood centers where maybe I can go for a few weeks to fulfill the reqts for donor processing reqts for the SBB exam? Thanks for your help.

Hi, I am in southern california but it is easy for me also to travel to northern california. Is GW George Washington? Do they offer a review class or do I have to buy a review book? Is Missyg refers to a name of a person or is it a place? I am new in this website so I do not really know how to work around it.

Thanks Kip. Is your blood center in California? Our local blood center would not take students. If you are nearby, maybe I can apply to rotate in your blood center.

Hi Cindy, Congratulations! Did you just do a self-review? I would really like to challenge the exam as I have 7 years experience in blood bank but I noticed that one of the reqts is donor processing and I have never done this except of course verifying the blood type of units that comes to our lab and product manipulation through aliquots for our neonates. So I do not know if I can get qualified to take the exam and also do you know of any review center for SBB? If I have no choice, I may have to go to a SBB school but I need a mentor and I do not who can I approach as I do not have a very good relationship with my supervisor. Thanks for your input and help.

I am wondering if there is any review center for SBB. I would like to challenge the exam but I would really like to go to a review center first. I live in California. Also I have 7 years experience in blood bank but I noticed that the reqt from ASCP BOR says I must have donor processing experience, how do I get around this? We do elution, absorption, aliquots in our hospital as well and I do not know if processing units when our products come in is enough? Pls help these 2 dilemmas I have. I should be getting my MSCLS in the fall of this year. Thanks for your help.
